I was born and raised in Mauritius. I lived in Mauritius for 17 years and moved to Toronto on March 2004 with my family. Before I got into photography, I actually knew anything about it or even heard of photography. I didn’t even know photography could be a profession. At first I wanted to be a dj, then a graphic design, then a web design, then back to graphic designer… Then I discovered Deviant Art. This is where my love for photography all started.

I wanted to go to college to study photography, but turned out it was too expensive so I went with my second option which was Web Design, and did photography as a hobby. Thanks to my mom, she bought my very first dSLR – Canon Rebel XT. I played around for the first few months, got bought, left it in its box for about a year. Took it again and decided that I should be doing something with it, or else my mom’s investment in my first dslr and my future would all be gone to waste.

I never took a course in photography. I was self-taught from Day 1. I started out by shooting random things but eventually got bored. and decided to pursue much more specific things, like weddings…

My cousin was getting married on June 2008. This gave me the chance, not to only visit my relatives, but to also shoot my very first wedding. I didn’t really have any expectations, I just wanted to shoot my very first wedding, and it would also be some kind of gift to my cousin. Turns out that I really liked it. When I got back to Canada, my coworker saw my photos and asked me if I could shoot his wedding. He was my very first paid client. Few months after, not sure how that happened, but I received an email all the way from Australia. The Aussie couple were getting married here in Canada.

That’s pretty much how it all began for me. Then I started networking with other Toronto Photographers, going to various local wedding photog get togethers, and my network kept growing. I got to meet some great fellows and made friends, such as Leanne Gosse, Ryan&Erika, Dave&Charlotte, Jon Thorpe, Emma Smallbone, Tim Forbes, and many more…All those folks made me what I am today, helped me, and shared their knowledge with me, and I’m very thankful for that.

I have also shot concerts on the side. My very first big concert was Take Action Tour 08, which included bands like August Burns Red. Next biggest concert was EdgeFest and Mayhem Fest. Those two concerts included bands such as DragonForce, Disturbed, Slipknot, Linkin Park, Stone Temple Pilots. After Take Action Tour.

I’m also currently part of a group called PAPM, a mauritian photography group. Unfortunately I will never be able to attend any of their events, but I help out as much as I can by making videos to provide tips to amateurs who wish to pursue photography as a career.

Anyway, that was my story.

PS. To this day, I still have my Rebel XT
